Rate limits
Why Rick stops responding when queried too fast, and how anonymous accounts share a limit.
To keep the bots stable, dynamic rate limits are in place on both Discord and Telegram.
When you hit a limit
If you are rate limited, wait a few seconds before querying Rick again. Do NOT keep spamming the command or contract. As long as you keep spamming, Rick ignores you, and eventually you hit the maximum requests per minute and have to sit it out. Spamming only extends your cooldown.
Repeated offenses may receive an automatic temporary ban.
Anonymous users share rate limits with other anons. For the best experience, disable anon mode. Anons are often bots, so they have to be penalized.
Running any form of automation that triggers the bot may result in you or your server or group being banned permanently from using Rick.
Anonymous admins on Telegram
Using Telegram's Remain Anonymous admin feature is generally advised against.
- ATH leaderboards show you as "Telegram" or
@GroupAnonymousBot. - Most bots are anonymous. If you are anonymous too, you look like a bot to Rick. Instead of banning bots (spamming bots do get banned), a fixed rate limit applies to all bots and anonymous accounts, so the bot feels a lot slower to you.
- Some features may not function at all.
Telegram's "Anonymous Admin" feature lets admins post without revealing their identity. Admins can disable it in the group or channel settings.
